12 Stories from the Bible Where God Used Children

1. Samuel (1 Samuel 3)

God called Samuel as a young boy and spoke to him in the temple. Samuel became a prophet and played a significant role in Israel's history.

⁸ And the LORD called Samuel again the third time. And he arose and went to Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou didst call me. And Eli perceived that the LORD had called the child. ⁹ Therefore Eli said unto Samuel, Go, lie down: and it shall be, if he call thee, that thou shalt say, Speak, LORD; for thy servant heareth. ¹⁰ And the LORD came, and stood, and called as at other times, Samuel, Samuel. Then Samuel answered, Speak; for thy servant heareth.

2. David and Goliath (1 Samuel 17)

David, a young shepherd boy, defeated the giant Goliath with a single stone, showcasing God's strength and faithfulness.

⁴⁵ Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied. ⁴⁶ This day will the LORD deliver thee into mine hand; and I will smite thee… ⁴⁷ And all this assembly shall know that the LORD saveth not with sword and spear: for the battle is the LORD'S.

3. Joseph (Genesis 37–50)

Joseph was sold into slavery by his brothers, but God used his wisdom and interpretation of dreams to make him a leader in Egypt, saving many lives during famine.

⁵ And Joseph dreamed a dream, and he told it his brethren: and they hated him yet the more. ⁶ And he said unto them, Hear, I pray you, this dream which I have dreamed: ⁷ For, behold, we were binding sheaves in the field, and, lo, my sheaf arose, and also stood upright; and, behold, your sheaves stood round about, and made obeisance to my sheaf.

4. Miriam (Exodus 2:1–10)

Miriam, the sister of Moses, played a vital role in saving her brother from Pharaoh's decree to kill all Hebrew male infants.

⁷ Then said his sister to Pharaoh's daughter, Shall I go and call to thee a nurse of the Hebrew women, that she may nurse the child for thee? ⁸ And Pharaoh's daughter said to her, Go. And the maid went and called the child's mother.

5. Joash (2 Kings 11–12)

Joash became king of Judah at the age of seven and, under the guidance of the priest Jehoiada, restored proper worship and repaired the temple.

6. Naaman's Servant Girl (2 Kings 5)

A young Israelite girl, captured as a slave, suggested to Naaman, a Syrian commander, that he seek the prophet Elisha's help for his leprosy. Her faith led to Naaman's healing.

² And the Syrians had gone out by companies, and had brought away captive out of the land of Israel a little maid; and she waited on Naaman's wife. ³ And she said unto her mistress, Would God my lord were with the prophet that is in Samaria! for he would recover him of his leprosy.

7. Jesus in the Temple (Luke 2:41–52)

Jesus, as a 12-year-old boy, amazed the teachers in the temple with His understanding and wisdom.

⁴⁶ And it came to pass, that after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions. ⁴⁷ And all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers. … ⁵² And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.

8. Jairus' Daughter (Mark 5:21–43)

Jesus raised Jairus' daughter from the dead, demonstrating His power over death.

⁴¹ And he took the damsel by the hand, and said unto her, Talitha cumi; which is, being interpreted, Damsel, I say unto thee, arise. ⁴² And straightway the damsel arose, and walked; for she was of the age of twelve years.

9. Boy with Five Loaves and Two Fishes (John 6:1–14)

A young boy offered his lunch of five loaves and two fish to Jesus, which Jesus used to miraculously feed thousands of people.

⁹ There is a lad here, which hath five barley loaves, and two small fishes: but what are they among so many? ¹⁰ And Jesus said, Make the men sit down… ¹¹ And Jesus took the loaves; and when he had given thanks, he distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to them that were set down.

10. Timothy (2 Timothy 1:5)

Timothy, a young disciple of Paul, played a significant role in spreading the Gospel and building up the early church.

⁵ When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also. … ⁷ For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

11. Boy Possessed by a Demon (Mark 9:14–29)

Jesus cast out a demon from a boy who had been suffering from seizures, illustrating His authority over spiritual forces.

²³ Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth. ²⁴ And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief. ²⁵ … he rebuked the foul spirit, saying unto him, Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, come out of him.

12. Jesus Blesses the Children (Mark 10:13–16)

Jesus affirmed the value of children and blessed them, highlighting their importance in God's kingdom.

¹⁴ But when Jesus saw it, he was much displeased, and said unto them, Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God. ¹⁵ Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein. ¹⁶ And he took them up in his arms, put his hands upon them, and blessed them.
